Sara is a New Zealand Arts Laureate recognised for her work as a director and choreographer. She works across opera, theatre, and music theatre (New Zealand, United Kingdom, Australia, China, France, and USA).

She has developed new works for the Melbourne Arts Festival, the Auckland, Wanaka, Otago, Erupt, Christchurch & Wellington New Zealand Arts festivals and the Leshan Dance Company, China. A focus is opera and accessibility which included directing the premiere of Iris Dreaming by Dame Gillian Whitehead, an inaugural production leading to the founding of formidAbility Opera.

Her directing work is supported by specialisation in Laban Movement Analysis, and Intimacy. She is a fully accredited Intimacy Choreographer with the Intimacy Professionals Association (USA) and has also trained with Intimacy Director’s International (UK).

Sara has an M.A. in Theatre from Victoria University, Wellington, NZ, and was the Programme Leader of the New Zealand National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art from 2021 - 24.
